How omniGateAIR bridges Airbus Agnet and land mobile radio

omniGateAIR is an Omnitronics software gateway that connects an Airbus Agnet mission-critical push-to-talk over broadband (PTToX) network to P25 and DMR land mobile radio (LMR) networks, with TETRA coming soon. It passes voice calls between Agnet groups and radio talkgroups both ways and works with Omnitronics dispatch and Airbus dispatch, so dispatchers hear both networks as one conversation.

Why broadband PTT and LMR need a gateway at all

Airbus Agnet carries push-to-talk over broadband networks. P25 and DMR carry it over dedicated radio networks. The two worlds use different signaling, different group models and different devices, so neither can hear the other on its own. A PTToX to LMR gateway translates between them. Without one, an organization running both has two islands of voice. Until now, joining them has meant a dispatcher relaying messages by hand or a patch built from spare radios. Both add delay and depend on someone noticing.

What the gateway does with a call

omniGateAIR sits between the two networks as software. On one side it connects to your Airbus Agnet network; on the other it connects to your P25 or DMR network. You pair Agnet groups with radio talkgroups. When an Agnet user presses PTT on a paired group, the gateway transmits the audio on the radio talkgroup. When a radio user transmits on that talkgroup, the Agnet group hears it. Nobody on either side does anything differently. Under the hood, the Agnet side speaks 3GPP MCPTT and the radio side is reached through omniGateP25 or omniGateDMR. The gateway translates between Agnet floor control and radio PTT and transcodes between AMR-WB audio and G.711. It carries group and private calls.

Where dispatch fits

A gateway that hid traffic from the control room would create a new problem. Instead, omniGateAIR works with Omnitronics dispatch and Airbus dispatch, so the joined call is visible to the dispatcher on the console the organization already runs. That matters in public safety, utilities, transport and mining, where dispatchers answer for every word on every channel.

What it supports at launch

At launch omniGateAIR connects Airbus Agnet to P25 and DMR networks. In other words, it works as an Agnet to P25 gateway, an Agnet to DMR gateway or both at once. TETRA support is coming soon. Omnitronics is launching it jointly with Airbus, and until general availability it carries a coming soon badge.
